Updated photos of the nursery

We have a super comfy leather rocker with matching ottoman to soothe

Would you believe this balloon is still afloat?  Uncle Fern gave this to Sloane on 22 July!

We stole this idea from Aunt Cold & Aidyn - removed the closet doors and hung up a curtain.  Easier access, as well as a bit more room.

We got this stuffed animal from Aunt Susan and Uncle DougO.  Isn't it perfectly matched to the material?!  We love the funky combinations...

Trip down memory lane

Not really, it's more like, "Oh, I found this DVD of pictures from the session we did when Sloane was four days old".  Not in chronological order, so hope y'all can get over that...  Hee hee

Hello, Mr. DeMille, I am ready for my close up.

The two most precious people in the world

It's all about the love...

Did we fail to mention we are now TWO months old!  We have learned so much in the past 62 days (not that I am counting)...
  1. We can survive on less than three hours of sleep at a time.
  2. Daddy can surf the internet and feed a bottle to the baby (awesome teeth grip on bottle when changing websites)
  3. Mommy can pump one side while feeding the baby on the other (wouldn't recommend)
  4. We can fall asleep within minutes of the baby finally sacking out in between 12 and 2 am
  5. Daddy is well versed on various colors and textures of poop
  6. Mommy can hear the baby open her eyes
  7. We have mood lighting and whisper always at night
  8. Daddy knows every developmental stage we have achieved, as well as ones to expect, along with the appropriate timeline
  9. Mommy's daily social connections are via her iPhone
  10. We would do anything for this little human being
What Sloane has learned?
  1. These large human beings are starting to ease into parenthood with "finesse".

Ahoy There, Mateys...

19 September is International Talk Like A Pirate Day...

Pirattitude

This year is the first, in a while, that we haven't celebrated this most fabulous holiday.  We had a great party last year, but with the munchkin not allowing us to sleep more than three hours at a time, we don't have the energy to celebrate properly.  Here are a few shots from the past...

Menacing tattoos are a must!

Hooks and swords should be your main accessories.

Our niece, Aidyn, missed the boat on the earrings.  Perhaps she thought it was Ferdinand the Bull Day?

Like I said, too tired to celebrate, but must not forget the day!!!

Smile, You're On Candid Camera...

My sister, Lara, gave us a great idea.  She told us to take our weekly photographs of Sloane, ie how much has she grown, with our chicken.  She said there was no way Sloane would want the chicken when she grows up, so since we "dig" it, us it.

Lucky for us, the nurse in NICU helped us prop Sloane with Chicken.  This was on day two of life...

So stinking precious!!!

Check out our big girl, now that she is 8 weeks old!

Before becoming a parent, I didn't understand parents who, when asked how old their kiddos were, answered in weeks or months (4 weeks instead of a month - 11 months instead of a year), but now, I get it!  Who wants their little cherub to grow up faster than necessary?  I was sad to see the preemie sized clothing go away, depressed to say goodbye to the newborn items...I just might have to be locked up when she grows out of the T's.

Just kidding!

Since Sloane was born four weeks early, we were told we could join this "preemie developmental" class for hospital staff to visit us, as well as we could go to support groups.  We thought about it a bit, but I declined the offer.  "Why?" you ask?  Well, John and I are notorious for sarcastic remarks and I didn't want our precious angel to be taken by CPS when we joked about our parenting skills.

I love a good sense of humor and find it amazing how many people don't have one.  Our friend, Michelle, had just returned back to work after maternity leave when a coworker asked where the baby was.  Her quick response, "She's in the car...but don't worry, I cracked a window for her".  Michelle had to stop the coworker from running out to the parking lot.  =)

When asked how Sloane has such long eyelashes, I responded, "Latisse".  The woman told me that it certainly wasn't meant for babies.  Uh, hello?!  There is NO way I would put anything on my baby without verifying it was meant for babies and super safe!!!

We had Sloane's first trip to the emergency room on Sunday.  She has had some icky diapers and when she had some blood within her stool, I called her pediatrician.  The nurse on call told me to watch for different symptoms, but as long as nothing contiunued, Sloane would be okay.  Within a few minutes, Sloane started to projectile vomit.  Kings X - we were off to ER.  Our baby has been hanging on to her burps, so once they get to her colon, she has been trying to force them out and the pressure has caused her bum to bleed.

The doctors have recommended that I limit my intake of fiber to help alleviate her gas.  I gave up caffeine, beans, broccoli, Kashi, and all foods that contain mass amounts of fiber...    Is there really a question about putting something dangerous on my baby???

She does look like a model for an eyelash growth treatment, huh?

What is she thinking?

During bath time, I noticed she was looking at me with this semi-puzzled look on her face.  As previously asked, do I really want to know what she is thinking?  I proclaim this look to be:  "Do you know what you are doing, Mommy?"

Well, kiddo, nope, but I'll fake it until I make it.

XOXO

P.S.  Daddy took the picture while Mommy was bathing her - JSYK

While we are on the subject...

Speaking of unique and fun baby shower gifts, Sloane received a gigantic gift, along with an impressive presentation of the goods.  Care to read about it?

Our family friend, Regi, happens to have a jumbled nickname.  When my sister went to introduce Regi, our proud lesbian friend, she meant to say, "This is Regi - our token lesbian".  In typical Hovde girl fashion, it came out jumbled, "This is our Resbian".

Anyhow, long story even l-o-n-g-e-r, when it came time for Nicole's baby shower, she didn't bother to show.  (Maybe it's because she was busy having her baby at the hospital, but only maybe...)  Lara decided to ask everyone to grab a present, just not the one they brought, and we took turns opening the gifts.  While we all had such a wonderful time discovering, then playing with the little pink gifts, no one was quite prepared for Regi.  She opened up a Boopy and a breast pump.  Please let your mind run wild on what expression overcame her face and how she tried to describe the breast feeding accessories and her creative ideas for their uses.  Surprisingly so, it is not obvious to every woman what these are used for...

Back to my shower...  Regi knew I was going to ask the guests to open the gifts instead of me.  Let's face it, the idea might sound awful and perhaps that I am ungrateful, but truly, my just-delivered-a-baby brain had limited storage and lacked focus abilities.  I was able to enjoy everyone opening the gifts while I wrote a very detailed list for my thank you notes.

The grand finale of gift giving was bestowed upon Regi.  She brought out this extremely large plastic storage container from Target; you know the one manufactured by RE?  Regi had "defaced" the packing label by adding SBIAN KIT to it.  Need I spell that one out for you?  RESBIAN KIT.  The lid was strapped down by an orange bungee, which we were informed every good resbian needs.

Without further ado, here is the list of Resbian Must Haves:

    • The usual resbian grey Gap thermal shirt with matching socks
    • Standard issue uniform:  white t shirt, khakis, and hiking boots (which Regi was wearing, too!)
    • A plaid shirt, for dress up
    • An ASU baseball cap
    • A rash guard and board shorts (since resbians would never wear a bikini)
    • A Matchbox Bentley

    • A baseball bat, glove and baseball (the only thing pink was the glove & I'm sure it bothered Regi to purchase that color)
    • A football
    • A soccer ball
    • A basketball
    • A referee bib
    • A Phoenix Mercury backpack (must represent the strong women of the WNBA)
    • A Minnesota bottle coozie
    • A tool kit
    • Finding Nemo (a strong leading actress - Ellen DeGeneres)
    • A Human Rights Equality sticker

It's nice to know if Sloane decides to ride on the other side of the bus, she will have a strong lesbian role model.  =)  If she does become boy crazy, like her mama, then I can rely on Regi and my sisters to teach Sloane all about sports.  She will need to know as much as she can to engage the boys in sporty conversation...
